Oh, Christmas Tree

Day 12:  Close Up

A close up of some of the ornaments on my tiny little Christmas tree in my living room.  I can’t believe Christmas is only six days away!! I hope everyone is (mostly) done with their holiday shopping because I know the stores have been quite chaotic the last couple of days.  I need to get some hangers at Target and I am nervous about braving the sea of people, not to mention driving in this horrible winter slush.  I would love to have a white Christmas this year, but I absolutely cannot deal with the sludgy ice. UGH!

Holiday Cheer!

This weekend I went to Kansas City to spend Saturday with some friends at their Christmas party.  No matter what the occasion is, I always enjoy getting dressed up in festive clothes and adding a little pop of color on my lips.  However, sprucing up my wardrobe for a Christmas party always seems to be one of the most fun times to do so!  Sparkles, red, green–you just can’t beat it!

The party was a lot of fun!  We had cute little snacks such as “reindeer noses,” “Santa’s cookies,” “the Grinch’s spinach wraps,” etc.  Each guest brought a white elephant gift to contribute to the namesake game and there were some wild presents including the “Forever Lazy” which is essentially a large footie pajama with a hood and a “back trap door.” Cheers to the holidays!!

For Day 11 of the 30 day photo challenge I am supposed to submit a photo of something fun, so I think this picture pretty much sums up the fun we were having during our little impromptu dance party!

The BEST sugar cookies

Day 10: Something I Made

I have seriously been slacking on this 30 Day Photo Challenge, so I’d really like to redeem myself in the next couple of days. I can’t believe I’m only on day 10…yikes!! My coworker’s birthday was today, so I thought, what better way to celebrate than to make cookies?! Homeade “Lofthouse Sugar Cookies”. I’m sure everyone has seen these scrumptious cookies on the shelves of the grocery store: soft, chewy cookies with colorful or holiday frosting and sprinkles–the way a sugar cookie should be. Even though the Lofthouse cookies are quite the little treat, the homemade version is sooo much better and might just be my favorite cookie recipe now.  I used this one from Annies-Eats.com. They came out perfectly! You do not want to know how much sugar and butter went into these cookies, so just forget about calorie counting for the day : )

In My Closet

For the 9th day of the 30 Day Photo Challenge, I am supposed to post a photo of a “faceless self portrait.”  I’m trying to think outside the box a little bit by posting a picture that portrays me, but doesn’t actually feature my face or body. So, I present to you: my closet. Clothing is an excellent example of self-expression and I sure do love clothes! This is a slice of my closet ( I couldnt show the whole thing because of the placement of my closet doors…and some of my clothes are in the laundry/storage).  Pardon the mess on the floor!

Speaking of fashion, I think it’s time for an update in my wardrobe.  I have way too many “throw on and go to class” pieces that I hardly even wear anymore.  I need to start focusing on classic, timeless pieces that will transition into different seasons and aren’t just “on trend” at the moment. Unfortunately, new clothes=lots of money, so that’s a small flaw in my plan to revamp.  Who wants to loan me some money?!

Day 8: Technology

I’ve had my outdated, yet somewhat faithful Canon Powershot SD1000 (3x optical zom and 7 megapixels) since August 2008 and have used it hundreds and hundreds of times.  Although I don’t have “an eye” for photography, I’ve always loved taking photos and was in need of something slightly more versatile and sleek to carry around with me while out with friends, traveling, etc. I received my SD1000 as a gift from my parents before I went on a vacation to California because the camera I had previously was a big chunker with a tiny screen and  like .5 megapixels. I  My new slim camera was a definite upgrade and I loved using its new and improved features. For the first couple of dreams it worked like a dream!! I had no problems with it whatsoever and my photos always came out looking crisp and clear. However, for some reason unbeknownst to myself (or anyone else who has tried messing with the camera’s settings), all of my photos are slightly “off”. No matter how much I adjust the settings to try and improve the image, faces are washed out and blurry and just a teensy bit out of focus.  I’m not sure what the problem is, seeing as my brother has the identical camera and has never experienced these kinds of issues. With that being said, three years later, I think it is time to update my little guy for something with a better zoom, way more megapixels and a wide angle lens!

Conveniently enough, Canon just introduced their new ELPH 310 HS (8x optical zoom and 12.1 megapixels) camera yesterday at a reasonable pricepoint and available in a rainbow of colors.  While black or silver would be the most practical and “grown up” for a young professiona like myself, I can’t resist a splash of color and am naturally drawn to either the purple or blue! Once I get a few more paychecks under my belt, I will for sure be buying this camera for myself! I can’t wait to post photos on here and Facebook that are actually high quality….or at least a lot better than I currently have!

What kind of camera do you have?? Which color of the ELPH 310 HS (the above photo) would you most likely get for yourself?!

Yellow

Why did I choose the title “yellow” for this post, you ask? Because all of my pictures feature the color yellow. : ) So creative, right? I had a really fun weekend full of seeing friends. The weekend kicked off with margs & the Ville with Allie & Andrea and then I met up with my brother and his girlfriend, Kristen, later in the night.   On Sunday I saw the movie, “The Help,” with a late lunch of Panera right afterwards.  I finished off the weekend with some cookie making–oatmeal scotchies!

30 Day Photo Challenge Day 6: Childhood Memory

If you know me well, you will know what this image represents : )

Day 4: Favorite Color

I don’t really have just one favorite color. I like lots of different colors, depending on my mood.  I often find myself attracted to hues of purples, greens, corals and turquoise blues. I also like to throw in some burnt orange or mustard every now and then, just to spice things up!   One color you will not find in my wardrobe or decor hardly ever? Red.  It’s jut not a good color for me as I have pink undertones in my skin! I’d really love to try a red lip sometime soon though!

What I Wore & S’mores

Day 2: What I Wore

Today I channeled my inner fashion blogger (wannabee) by posting the outfit that I wore today.  I could have picked something a little bit more interesting to wear, but I ran out of time this morning while getting ready and throwing on a dress seemed like my easiest option! I hit the snooze button one too many times…Also, I tried taking a picture of myself in my outfit and failed desperatley.  The self-timer tactic was just not cutting it this morning. So, when I got to work I had to explain the 30 day challenge to my co-worker and ask her to take my picture. Thanks, Kendra! : )

Dress: J. Crew, Sandals: Gap, Necklace: Charlotte Russe Bracelets: Krystallos & Forever 21

Since I obviously haven’t gotten enough sweets in the past week (immense sarcasm here), I celebrated National S’mores Day with the gals at the office!  I already had graham crackers & mallows in the pantry from last time I craved s’mores, so all I had to get was the chocolate.  It was a nice little pick me up at the office today!
