Fall Fashion

Who is ready to ditch their sandals and jean shorts for some boots and tights?? This girl. I’m sure many of you would happily agree that the dog days of summer need to be over quickly. I’m dying for crisp leaves, cooler temperatures (perfect for jackets and sipping chai tea lattes) and everything fall and pumpkin related.  Here are some cute pieces that will transition nicely right into Autumn. I’m loving polka dots and of course, leopard print!

In My Closet

For the 9th day of the 30 Day Photo Challenge, I am supposed to post a photo of a “faceless self portrait.”  I’m trying to think outside the box a little bit by posting a picture that portrays me, but doesn’t actually feature my face or body. So, I present to you: my closet. Clothing is an excellent example of self-expression and I sure do love clothes! This is a slice of my closet ( I couldnt show the whole thing because of the placement of my closet doors…and some of my clothes are in the laundry/storage).  Pardon the mess on the floor!

Speaking of fashion, I think it’s time for an update in my wardrobe.  I have way too many “throw on and go to class” pieces that I hardly even wear anymore.  I need to start focusing on classic, timeless pieces that will transition into different seasons and aren’t just “on trend” at the moment. Unfortunately, new clothes=lots of money, so that’s a small flaw in my plan to revamp.  Who wants to loan me some money?!

What I Wore & S’mores

Day 2: What I Wore

Today I channeled my inner fashion blogger (wannabee) by posting the outfit that I wore today.  I could have picked something a little bit more interesting to wear, but I ran out of time this morning while getting ready and throwing on a dress seemed like my easiest option! I hit the snooze button one too many times…Also, I tried taking a picture of myself in my outfit and failed desperatley.  The self-timer tactic was just not cutting it this morning. So, when I got to work I had to explain the 30 day challenge to my co-worker and ask her to take my picture. Thanks, Kendra! : )

Since I obviously haven’t gotten enough sweets in the past week (immense sarcasm here), I celebrated National S’mores Day with the gals at the office!  I already had graham crackers & mallows in the pantry from last time I craved s’mores, so all I had to get was the chocolate.  It was a nice little pick me up at the office today!

Mad Men Fashion

The scandalous hit television series Mad Men has re-introduced an era of fashion that will always be classic and timeless: the 1960s.  From tight fitting sheath dresses, a-line skirts and mens’ fitted suits, all characters (or real live people) look perfectly polished and put together.  Mad Men and Banana Republic have had a marketing partnership for the past couple of years that has been quite intriguing to me, seeing that I am very interested in the era itself, as well the fashion.  At one point there was a “casting call” type promotion for BM/MM, which showcased some 1960s-esque clothing, but the actual clothing was not available in stores….until now! On August 11th, Banana Republic will be selling 65 pieces of Mad Men inspired clothing; some for men and some for women.

I can honestly say there is not one piece in this collection that I don’t totally love. Everything is perfectly tailored and wonderful, with a modern twist.  I especially like the navy houndstooth shift dress, the black full skirt, the black lace sleeveless shell, the leopard trench coat with the ivory lace dress underneath, and the sweet polka dot tights.  I love it all 🙂  1960s fashion is so classic and makes me wish I lived in that era…think Jackie O. or Holly Golightly in the 1961 film, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”.  In fact, while I was at home this weekend the film, “An Education” was $2.99 at the local grocery store.  I snatched it up, not necessarily because I love the movie, but because I admire the fashion and styling.

Which era of fashion do you love?? I’m also a fan of all the clothing in the 1970 film, “Love Story” : )

Style I Love: Rachel Bilson

Rachel Bilson has the type of style and taste in fashion that I envy.  Everything she wears is so put together, yet very effortless.  I love how she layers and experiments with colors and somehow on her tiny frame, everything seems to work! In my opinion,  two of her best accessories are  her signature wayfarer sunnies and her long ombre-esque hair.  Ever since I first saw Rachel as Summer on the “OC”, she has been on my fashion radar.  Talk about style evolution from season 1-4!

1. Blazer, scarf, boyfriend jeans and booties–the perfect fall outfit

2. Rachel plays up her scalloped top and drapey shorts with a structured blazer and lady-like purse.

3. A classic white dress with nude pumps. Per-fection!

4. I love the color pallette of this outfit. Muted colors are so pretty! I’d probably opt for flats for this look, though! However, RB definitley knows how to rock the heels!

Whose style do you love and covet?! I can think of many. many more!

Fashion Finds

Fall is by far my favorite time of year when it comes to fashion.  I can’t get enough of boots, skirts and dresses layered with tights, cardigans, and scarves. I also love the warmer textures fall clothing are often made of such as leather, suede, cashmere and chunky knits.  Hurry up and get here, fall!!! In the mean time, we will have to melt in the 100 degree (plus) weather and try to stay as cool as possible.

After skimming through Gap, Piperlime, Old Navy and Banana Republic (All under the Gap Inc. umbrella),  I found some great pieces for the upcoming, yet still far away, season. Some of the pieces I found are great for the current hot weather, while others might be more approraiate once the temperature has dropped. Nonetheless, both Old Navy and Piperlime have some great items right now that I would love to get my hands on. See for yourself!

Next up: my picks from Gap and Banana Republic.

Steal Vs. Splurge

Cute shoes often tend to be really expensive, thus I don’t normally buy too many pairs with each passing season. However, in the last couple of years stores like Target have done an excellent job re-creating designer brand shoes at a fraction of the cost!

For example, I spotted these super cute Seychelles heels for $85.oo  and then found a replica pair for MUCH cheaper at Target.com on sale for $17.48

To me, the differences between these two pairs of shoes is nearly non-existent, besides the price tag of course.

Pretty & Patriotic

The temperatures are rising, baseball season is in full swing, local swimming pools are at full capacity and burgers, hot dogs and potato salad are summertime staples for many.  Yes, it is summer time and, it is almost the 4th of July.

The Fourth is a holiday that I do not usually get too excited about. (It’s no Halloween…).  I do not enjoy Black Cats, Roman Candles, Whistle Warblers (ok I made that one up)…pretty much I don’t like things being lit on fire only to watch them explode. However, I don’t mind viewing the BIG firework displays when it gets darker at night–that’s kind of pretty. What I DO enjoy about the 4th of July festivities is the food, for obvious reasons. Hot dogs, chips, potato salad, pasta salad, baked beans, corn on the cob, watermelon, brownies, lemonade…those are the contenders at most BBQs I go to in the summer. I also like getting together with my friends and having a good time, but just please don’t stick a punk in my face, try to convince me to light anything on fire or be alarmed when I jump away and scream from fire crackers coming too close to me.

In light of this upcoming occasion (yay, America), I have created some fun looks to wear! Even if I don’t love the holiday, I can still try and look cute, right?!

4th of July

Bonus: This year since the 4th of July is on a Monday, I get the day off from work.  Ok, maybe it’s not such a bad holiday after all.
