Disney Pixar’s “Brave”

I sure love a good Disney Pixar movie! Some of my favorites include, “Up, Wall-E, The Incredibles and  Toy Story.” While all of these movies are fabulous, they also all feature males as the lead role.  However,  “Brave”, which is being released Summer 2012, is Disney Pixar’s first female lead fairy tale movie and I am very excited!

Here is a very basic plot summary from IMDB:

Set in Scotland in a rugged and mythical time, “Brave” features Merida, an aspiring archer and impetuous daughter of royalty. Merida makes a reckless choice that unleashes unintended peril and forces her to spring into action to set things right.

Do you like Disney Pixar animated movies??

Steal Vs. Splurge

Cute shoes often tend to be really expensive, thus I don’t normally buy too many pairs with each passing season. However, in the last couple of years stores like Target have done an excellent job re-creating designer brand shoes at a fraction of the cost!

For example, I spotted these super cute Seychelles heels for $85.oo  and then found a replica pair for MUCH cheaper at Target.com on sale for $17.48

To me, the differences between these two pairs of shoes is nearly non-existent, besides the price tag of course.

Pretty & Patriotic

The temperatures are rising, baseball season is in full swing, local swimming pools are at full capacity and burgers, hot dogs and potato salad are summertime staples for many.  Yes, it is summer time and, it is almost the 4th of July.

The Fourth is a holiday that I do not usually get too excited about. (It’s no Halloween…).  I do not enjoy Black Cats, Roman Candles, Whistle Warblers (ok I made that one up)…pretty much I don’t like things being lit on fire only to watch them explode. However, I don’t mind viewing the BIG firework displays when it gets darker at night–that’s kind of pretty. What I DO enjoy about the 4th of July festivities is the food, for obvious reasons. Hot dogs, chips, potato salad, pasta salad, baked beans, corn on the cob, watermelon, brownies, lemonade…those are the contenders at most BBQs I go to in the summer. I also like getting together with my friends and having a good time, but just please don’t stick a punk in my face, try to convince me to light anything on fire or be alarmed when I jump away and scream from fire crackers coming too close to me.

In light of this upcoming occasion (yay, America), I have created some fun looks to wear! Even if I don’t love the holiday, I can still try and look cute, right?!

4th of July

Bonus: This year since the 4th of July is on a Monday, I get the day off from work.  Ok, maybe it’s not such a bad holiday after all.

Fashionably Fit

Back in February I wrote this post about wanting to upgrade my workout wardrobe.  I wanted to ditch the dingy T-shirts for some body hugging tanks and pants in hopes that I would feel more confident while working out, thus gaining more motivation to actually go to the gym.

Several months have passed since I first wished for cuter workout clothes and I am pleased to announce that I have indeed made an effort to look a little better while working out. Let me start off by saying this: while some of my new ensembles are more flattering, they are also more functional.  Remember my rant about how crew necked t-shirts are too restricting and hot while I’m running on the treadmill? Or what about my gym shorts riding up while I’m doing weight machines, lunges or sit ups? With my new dri-fit tops and capris, I have rid myself of these problems (on most days) and feel more comfortable about lifting my legs up to do reverse crunches.

Without further adieu, I present to you: My Workout Essentials. (Sorry for the lack of high-quality photos.  I do what I can)

One of the most important aspects of fitness and safety is finding the right type of shoe for the activity you are performing.  I have quickly learned that wearing a structured running shoe is not the best idea while taking a Zumba class. Running shoes are not meant to move from side to side, whereas a light weight training shoe with a flexible sole is designed for just that.

1. Nike Flex Trainer, $60 from Zappos  I actually just got these in the mail today and am eager to try them out at the gum tomorrow for Zumba class!

2. Nike Air Pegasus + 27, $81 from Zappos These are my second pair of Nike Air Pegasus and I absolutely love them. They are light weight, the perfect width for my foot and have just the right amount of cushion.

3. Champion Sports Bras, $15-$17 from Target  Having a supportive sports bra is crucial to a good workout!

4. Danskin NowTank, $7 from WalMart  I have a couple of these “dri-more” tanks and I really like them. They have a shelf bra and are made of a thick, stretchy fabric that kind of sucks you in!

5. Nike Race Day Shorts, $21 from Nike Both the Nike Tempo shorts and the Nike Race Day shorts can be found in my dresser drawer! I love the breathable fabric and the built in briefs for days I want to run or do the elliptical. They aren’t too short either.

6. Nike Running Capris, $45 from Nike although these are a bit on the pricey side, they are great for spinning classes, running, weight training, etc…pretty much everything! I highly recommend them. However, I found a replica pair at Target for half the price…might be worth checking out!

7. Adidas Kids Socks, $10 for three pairs from Famous Footwear I wear a size 6.5 shoe, so a lot of times adults socks are too big for my feet. Instead, I buy kids socks! These Adidas ones are my favorite because they are thick enough that they don’t bunch up in my shoe. I HATE thin socks that slide around.

Other items I like to keep in my gym bag: Apple iPod Shuffle–love it! I feel helpless when it dies on me while on the elliptical.  Water is an absolute must while at the gym. Luna Bar, just in case my stomach is growling uncontrollably. Pad Lock, the gym I belong to has a locker room, so I like to take advantage of locking up my personal belongings. Hair Accessories such as bobby pins, pony tail holders and elastic headbands to keep my hair off my face. Some type of fitness Magazine, just in case I need some inspiration or to reference weight training exercises.

Pucker Up!

I can’t help but notice all of the brightly colored lips women are donning this spring and summer season. Celebrities like Emma Stone, Taylor Swift, Rhianna, Lauren Conrad and Alexis Bledel (to name a few) have this bold trend nailed! I recently bought some Covergirl lipstick in the shade, “Spellbound”. It turns out this shade is much brighter than I had suspected and I still have yet to wear it out in public! My sister’s reaction to this fuchsia hue was, “Whoa, now that is Barbie pink.” I’m not sure if that’s good or bad?! hehe I will be sure to post pictures if I’m ever brave enough to wear it!

All of these ladies look beautiful with their bright pink lips, mais non?! Well, here are some tips to achieve the perfect balance of bright lips and shimmery, natural makeup for the rest of your face.

  • Keep everything simple.  If you have a bright lip color make sure to go light and easy on the makeup.
  • Do not overdo your blush when wearing hot pink lipstick.  Try to go for shimmery nude color instead of the usual pink blush.
  • If you’re not confident enough to wear such bright lip color during the day save it for the night instead.
  • If you want to change your night time look and want to be daring and bolder you can go for hot pink lips instead of the usual fiery red lips.
  • If you have a light skin tone go for hot pink lipstick with blue undertone.  If you have a darker skin tone go for orange or red based undertone.
  • If you’re fair skinned and a little shy to wear this color just think of how Emma Stone pulled off the look.  She looked sexy with her hot pink lips.
  • Planning to wear this lip color means having enough confidence to sport it.  Don’t just buy the lipstick and let your drawer wear it.  Be bold and confident enough!
  • Experiment with your look once in a while.
  • Test the lipstick before you buy it.  Make sure that you would wear it.
  • Test the color of the lipstick in natural lighting.  Don’t just rely on the store lighting.  Try to dab it on your lips and go outside to check it out.

Spiced Dress

This lovely yellow dress from Anthropologie would be the perfect addition to my closet…if only I was willing to splurge and spend nearly $200 dollars. It would look so cute with some leather wedges, a set of bangles and a pair of contrasting dangly earrings.  I can picture myself wearing it an outdoor wedding or a night out! I’m most definitely lusting over this pretty little frock, and basically a lot of the other items on Anthropologie’s website.

Sweet Sparkles

Starting off the new week with a freshly painted set of nails always makes things a little brighter!  I was inspired by the post Emily of Cupcakes and Cashmere featured on her blog. Like her, I am trying Essie’s “French Affair” paired with Sally Hansen’s “Snappy Sprinkles” as a top coat. The sparkly nail polish was a birthday gift from my friend, Gabby, and I can’t wait to try it out!

Lissie featuring Ellie Goulding “Everywhere I Go”

Two lovely blonde ladies singing Lissie’s song, “Everywhere I Go” (For reference: Lissie is the first singer and Ellie is the second one whose voice kind of quivers like a goat–I still like her though  😉  When they sing together on the chorus you can’t help but get the chills. The harmonizing is beautiful.  I can’t help but listen to it over and over!
