Growing up, my family took countless summer vacations to Colorado where we would pitch a tent, build a fire and enjoy the great outdoors! The memories of these trips are close to my heart; feeding ground squirrels, hiking in the mountains, horseback riding, roasting marshmallows, meeting a British boy named Michael who waited outside our tent at 6:00 am to play with us, seeing hippies streaking in the woods, seeing a BEAR, visiting ghost towns, leaving the campsite early because we missed our dog, collecting cool rocks, visiting kitchy gift shops, walking 10 minutes to find the nearest restroom, in the dark, with a lantern, ahhh…..the joys of roughin’ it.
Now, I’m hesitant to camp outdoors because I’m worried about what could happen whilst asleep in the tent: bear attacks, murderers on the loose, etc. I’m too paranoid to leave myself so vulnerable and exposed in the wilderness, but I still love the feeling of being so close to nature. So what does a girl do ??
GLAMPING, or glamorous camping. Urban Dictionary defines it as: satisfying your craving for the outdoors and your penchant for a good meal, a nice glass of wine and a comfortable bed.
The accomodations glamping provides is quite unlike camping in mountains of the rockies, and I wouldn’t exactly even put it in the same category of camping, but for the people who are looking for a way to appreciate fresh air and a clear view of the stars without sacrificing comfort–glamping is the way to go!
The above pictures are from The Resort at Paws Up in Greenough, Montana. Each luxury tent features electricity, a shower, toilet, heated floors, and a bed with a pillowtop mattress. There is a separate dining tent where guests can eat all of their meals and an in-house chef is available to prepare dishes upon request!
While I probably will never be able to afford the luxuries of glamping, it’s still a nice idea! And don’t worry, I haven’t ditched traditional camping forever! As long as I know there are no bears around and there is a decent bathroom facility–I’m there!
